Samsung To Bring Unbreakable Flexible Phones By 2013

Korea-based Samsung is looking forward to bring unbreakable and bendable smartphones by next year in the market. Samsung has already started sampling smartphones that use plastic display instead of glass. The company showcased plastic polymer displays that could be rolled or bend. These display are tough enough to handle any kind of stress from falls to blows. So, can smartphones with flexible display be a differentiator for Samsung in the highly competitive smartphone market.

Samsung, previously, displayed a prototype of its flexible AMOLED screens at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show), which led to Galaxy Skin. It sported a single display that can be folded and become more compact. Recent reports suggest that the company is naming the technology as Youm. These displays are expected to feature in their upcoming smartphones from Samsung.

The new screens will be flexible, thanks to the special treatment given to the TFT, which makes it ‘unbreakable’. The company has even sent the name and logo for trademark registration in the US. Some functioning prototypes of the display are expected at the Samsung event slated for the month of May. And it could come in interesting displays up to 800 X 480 pixel resolution.
